Necessary Roughness S01E01 Pilot Recap and Review

I simply had to have an impulsive decision before the year ends, eh? Coming from another USA Network hit with me in the form of Suits, along with White Collar, Covert Affairs and Burn Notice, I decided to check out USA Network’s other shows. I readily downloaded the pilot episode of Necessary Roughness even if the download was slow just to see if USA Network is mah network. All I knew was that it’s about a divorcee therapist doing some tough love therapy. Premise looks okay, I know no one in the cast and I had faith with USA Network. So what’s the verdict? Read on. (Hee. You think I won’t make you work for it? Haha!)

Recap

We start with a life-is-like-football analogy voiceover with an actual football game in the reel. That there are winners, losers, superstars but that how much protective gear you wear, you’re gonna get the living crap kicked out of you at some point. And that day, was the persona’s turn.

We meet Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne), mother of two problematic kids, Lindsay (Hannah Marks) and Ray Jay (Patrick Johnson). She’s a psychologist who uses hypnotherapy in her sessions. With her voice-over during the hypnosis, we see how she discovers that her husband’s cheating (the guestroom’s bed sheets are done like hospital corners, not box pleats which is how she does it and that the pillows are not as she fixes it and the telltale sexy pictures on the phone) and throws his clothes from the window and asks for a divorce.

Body of Proof S01E01 Pilot Recap and Review

This post has been sitting on my drafts for two months now. TWO FREAKIN’ MONTHS. Now who wants to take a gander at my drafts to see how many I’ve been warming up, huh? Anyway, since it’s the holidays and I’m still downloading the finale episode of Suits, I decided to just write this once and for all. I hope I won’t bore myself. Oooohhh, foreshadowing. Ha!

I watched this on a flight heading to Hong Kong. I figured, maybe I’ll have a new show after watching this. So I opted for watching this rather than watch Modern Family or How I Met Your Mother. I wouldn’t say I regretted my choice but I didn’t end up with a new show either. Okay, so on with the recap!

Recap

We meet Dr. Megan Hunt, played by Dana Delany, a top medical examiner. We learn that she was one of the best neurosurgeons, until she was involved in a car accident. That accident left her with numbness in her hands and she ended up killing a patient on the table and was forced to quit. We also get to know what she’s like, for instance in the scene she goes up the crime scene and was told off by the investigator for getting in the way of the investigation. Basically, she’s that know-it-all, I-know-I’m-smarter-than-you person.

So let’s get on with the case. The victim, a young woman named Angela, was found dead in a marina after she went for a jog. Upon examination, Hunt sees marks on her head indicating trauma. She also notices weird bite marks on the victim’s arm. This does occur with tons of banter and cheesiness between Hunt and the principal investigator. And the kind of banter I do not enjoy. Though I should say that I love Megan’s fashion sense. Hee.

When Harry Met Sally (1989) Review

I watched When Harry Met Sally just this week. Hmm, I read that it’s a cult classic after researching. I basically watched it because I have a copy and my mom said that it’s good! So yeah.

Is it funny? Yes, sorta. But I didn’t find it AMAZING. I guess there’s a generation gap? But no, the themes are classics that every age group knows or can relate to. It’s not the outfits since I love vintage stuff. I guess I already know what will happen to them. Since it’s a romcom, you can bet that they will end up together. And with the tone of the movie and snippets of the wiki article, you know that they will end up together. So it’s up to how they will end up together for me to enjoy this.

Well, I enjoyed watching it but not much. I guess I’m waiting for something to blow me away but nothing came so I ended up being disappointed. I kept thinking, “Oh come on, when will they end up together?”. Or I thought to myself, “Gah, it’s so obvious they are for each other and when will they realize that?”.

Billy Crystal as Harry Burns was funny and Meg Ryan as Sally Albright was pretty. I just don’t think they are of the same age. Sorry Crystal, you look really older compared to Ryan.

The film raises the question “Can men and women ever just be friends?” and the movie revolves on that question. Basically, that’s the theme of the movie. Personally, I believe men and women can have a platonic relationship. :)

I think the most famous scene or the film is best known for this and I’m backed up by the wiki article is the deli scene. Harry and Sally are having lunch at Katz’s Delicatessen. They are arguing about a man’s ability to recognize when a woman is faking an orgasm. Sally says that men cannot tell the difference, and to prove her point, she fakes one. This was really funny but awkward to watch because everyone in the restaurant was watching her. I mean, seriously, you would embarass yourself to prove that point? HAHAHAHAHA! :)) Harry is shocked and embarassed as well. But that’s not the funny part, or at least, the punchline. The scene ends with Sally casually returning to her meal as if nothing happened as a nearby patron places her order and says “I’ll have what she’s having”. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA =)))

The transitional scenes with the stories of the old couples and their love stories were really aaaaaaaawwww.

I think that’s all I can say. :D

10 Things I Hate About You (1999) Review

This was long overdue. I wasn’t able to finish this immediately. I watched this around August and started the review, I think. Sorry about not finishing it.

Photobucket

Why did I watch this?

My co-JGL (that’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt) junkie (Cel) said that she wouldn’t breathe until I’ve watched this movie. Okay, I’m into exaggerations, sorry. Anyway, she was spazzing about JGL in this movie and I can’t wait to go home to go download this and watch it immediately. I want my JGL fix! I even saw a VCD that’s worth Php 75 and I almost bought it. It helped that I didn’t have enough money to go home if I bought that. Wahaha! So I actually downloaded it. My internet’s so slow so I was literally watching it download itself for many nights until at last, I actually left our PC turned on while I took a not-so-short nap that lasted ‘til morning. Oh crap, my parents would be angry at me if they knew that. It’s a sisters’ secret. Heehee. I do like long introductions, don’t ya think so? HAHA! After waiting for eternity to come, I was able to watch this last night. And boy was I screaming and laughing so much. I can’t believe I only watched this so late (?) in my life/teens.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The movie stars Heath Ledger as Patrick Verona, a rough and tough guy everyone’s afraid of; Julia Stiles as Kat Stratford as an opinionated, i-don’t-care-about-other-people outcast and Bianca’s older sister; Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cameron James, a sweet and delicate transferee who is madly in love into Bianca Stratford; and Larisa Oleynik as Bianca Stratford, the girl who everyone digs.

Story:

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

It’s the first day of school for Cameron at Padua High and he spots with Michael, his tutor/new friend/tour guide Bianca, the out-of-your-league popular girl. He isn’t taking any of these and even spits out an “I burn, I pine, I perish”. Heehee. He must have a date with Bianca, whatever it takes; even high school jock and jerk Joey claimed implied dibs on her. Not only that, Bianca also likes Joey, a cool wuss part-time model. OH NO for Cameron’s sweet heart. But that’s not even the hard part yet, there is a new house rule, Bianca can date, when Kat does.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

OH NO times 2 for our dear boy but they were clever. Cameron and Michael come up with a plan: pay someone to date Kat so Cameron can date Bianca. But they have no moolah. They do know that Joey has cash and so they plot Joey to pay for this guy who would take Kat out, while Cameron, instead of Joey, will date Bianca. Now, who will be strong and insane enough to date Kat? Enter bad boy Patrick, rumored to have eaten a live duck. He takes Kat out and you know what will happen. I mean, who doesn’t know! :P

I assure you, this is one of the epitomes of rom-coms because it really is funny and sweet. Aaaaaww. The movie’s somewhat old, making it one of the sorta first rom-coms before the recent surge in rom-coms. Commencing commentary.

The soundtrack was amazing. The movie has just started and I was itching to search and download the soundtrack. Maybe this just proves that I’m a 1990s kid because I miss hearing those types of songs. <3 I’m trying to be coherent here but JGL is all over in my mind and I can’t say anything not related to him. HAHA :P

Okay, the characters. JGL’s Cameron was so endearing and I dunno if this is bias-free. But seriously, he’s like the sweetest. Patrick Verona. Okay, I love “bad boys” in movies and dramas so I’m owned. HAHA! And it’s Heath Ledger, oh come on! That accent *swoons* HUHU Heath Ledger. Maybe this is the only time I like Julia Stiles but yeah. Don’t get me started with Larisa Oleynik. Okay, maybe the role was actually like that but SHE IS SO NOT LIKABLE. I dunno if the actress could have portrayed her better and made her lovable. Besides, I do not like anyone messing with Cameron’s sweet and fragile heart. Heehee <3

PhotobucketPhotobucket<PhotobucketPhotobucket

The secondary characters were really FUNNY. A guidance counselor who writes smut on her free time, or not. It’s not even her free time because she’s writing during office hours! Haha! Michael, Cameron’s sidekick, how I love thee. In the end with his Shakespeare stuff, I was laughing so hard. And a dick drawn in his face, EPIC WIN. =)) And Kat and Bianca’s father, so touching. I can totally understand him, being strict and all. Even reminding them that being preggy is hard by making Bianca wear that preggy-feel suit whatever. HAHAHAHA =))

How I love the people in the school! The way they were introduced was really FUNNY okay. I’m running out of synonyms. Gah. The coffee kids where no sudden movements since they might spill coffee on you and since they’re really nervous. HAHA =)) The it girls who you must speak to when only spoken to. Ivy Leaguers and cowboys, I love everyone!

PhotobucketPhotobucket

And oh, the quotes. Something like “Just because you’re beautiful doesn’t mean you can look down on everyone else like they don’t matter”. Or Patrick’s words of wisdom to Cameron that if Bianca is worth all the trouble, he must not give up. Do not let anyone make you feel like you don’t deserve it. Ya go MAN!

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The performance. I know, it’s cheesy and all that but I love Heath Ledger so you can’t really blame me. I’m sure I was blushing while watching that part but at the same time, I was screaming because even though how sweet it is and how swoon-worthy is that accent, IT WAS REALLY CHEESY OKAY. I want it to end because I was having goose bumps from all that CHEESINESS.

While they were at the swing. Gosh. Weehoo! Your eyes have a little green in them. <3 And the legends about Patrick! HAHA! He ate a live duck, he spent a year in prison, underwear model. HAHA! So sweet of him that he was in Milwaukee and made spaghetti and sat on the couch with his grandpops since he was sick. Patrick Verona <333 (I actually do not like the poem that much, the titular 10 Things I Hate About You, because Kat was crying and it was cheesy and not my style. HAHA Ohwell.)

The ending sequence! I love ittttttttt!

I love the movie! It certainly has it flaws but HELLO, it has more hits than misses so I don’t have a problem with that. And since I am so biased about JGL, I really love it. Young JGL the best! =)) I recommend this movie! REALLY REALLY RECOMMEND! (Watch til the end for the bloopers!)

Thanks to my screencapping skillz for the bleh screencaps. At least the review has pictures! You do not know how long it took me to do this. Gah. But I made it out of love and out of nothing to post. :)) Thanks to my Peking man level photo editing for the captions. HAHA!

Just Friends (2005) Review

I know every single filmmaker and production team works really hard to get a movie rolling in theaters and I respect them for their art. So I try my best to like every movie that comes my way. And so I burn, I pine and I perish. Who am I kidding? This movie, okay, it’s not crap. Maybe it’s just not the time of the year to watch this and at 2am for that. But I didn’t like it. I don’t hate it, hate is such a strong word but I didn’t like it either. It felt so-so. I was like, SO MUCH FOR SLEEPING AT 3AM JUST TO WATCH THIS FREAKIN’ FILM. I thought it’s a good, must-watch romcom. And it’s even Christmas-themed! Oh gosh, maybe I’ll just watch this again when I’m feeling more lenient so it can save its face in the near future. Oh well, stans of this movie, leave this review now.

Halfway (2009) Movie Review

I feel bad that I just watched this last night since it was released in theaters back in 2009 . T_T I just watched it last night because I feel bad that I haven’t watched it but I made an fyeah for Okada Masaki (fuckyeahokadamasaki, click!). Making an fyeah implies that I must really love him (which I do, I really do!) and that I have watched him in almost all, if not all of his appearances. I promise to watch his other dramas and films as well when I can. It’s just that I have many things to watch slash think about and as usual, uni. I really wonder how other people do fandom and work/school at the same time that well. :’( Anyway, enough with the blab and let’s get this done XP (I’d be stealing screencaps because I just streamed this *asks for forgiveness*) (I was searching baidu for caps when I realized that they actually capped every single second or whatever in the film and so there are 486 pictures for the Halfway gallery and I don’t know what caps to use :o)

Photobucket

Halfway is about the two high school students in love. Heck, it’s about making decisions actually, with love as a hindrance thing to think about.

Hiro (Kii Kitano) is watching a basketball game with Shuu (Okada Masaki) playing in it. She gets a little too excited I think, and has anemia and so she thinks she’ll faint so she and her friend went to the clinic. Continue reading

Myu no Anyo Papa ni Ageru Review

Photobucket

Myu no Anyo Papa ni Ageru (Myu will Give Daddy her Legs)

Synopsis

The drama is based on a true story of Yamaguchi Hayato (25), a young man who learns he has a rare illness known as Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, which affects the nervous system. He begins to lose the functioning of his limbs, but he is determined to fight the illness with the support of his wife and his 2-year-old daughter, Myu-chan. (from tokyograph)

Thoughts

Being baited by MatsuJun into the jdrama world, I just can’t let this drama pass by me. So I watched it. Heard this from my co-drama junkie in the dorm. She said she was itching to watch this but she can’t find it anywhere in the net (We can’t download videos while in the dorm so we resort to Youtube). So being a good friend I am (hahahahahaha! really now? XD) and being a MatsuJun follower as well, I downloaded the torrent file. But my Internet was possessed by then so I asked my roommate to download it for me. And come Monday, we were able to watch it. :) My roommate’s not a drama junkie like me but like all girls, she adores pretty boys like MatsuJun. XD Continue reading

Hanayome to Papa Review

Photobucket
Hanayome to Papa

Synopsis XD

Ishihara plays a new 20-year-old OL working in the apparel company of her dreams. Her father, played by Tokito, loves his daughter excessively to the point that he compels her to follow his house rules: 7:00pm curfew, no socialising with the opposite sex. Nevertheless, she falls in love with her colleague, played by Taguchi, and begins a mission to “graduate” from her father.. (from dramawiki)

Thoughts

Here I am again with all my sidestories. XD

I decided to download this after watching Ganbatte Ikimaashoi Taguchi Junnosuke’s parts in Ganbatte Ikimasshoi. I can’t stop liking Junno’s smile. I am such a weak person for smiles like that. So, so, I checked if Hanayome to Papa is available in Veoh for download. And it is. So I immediately downloaded it. XD

Junno is not just a supporting actor but he’s the love interest of Aiko, played by Ishihara Satomi, which is the lead. It was funny when I realized that Aiko’s father, Kentaro, played by Tokito Saburo, also played as the professor in Voice which also stars Ishihara Satomi. Heehee. Junno in a drama is love so I loved watching this. XD Continue reading

About Love (2005) Review

I made this draft a long time ago. But only the title so I will be forced to make a post about it. XD

I watched this movie, uhm, rather not continuously. As I was a fan of Tsukamoto Takashi, I watched the third part, which is rather poignant and heart-breaking some time ago, the day before my College Entrance Exams that was like August last year. What a good way to review for the exams. And it made my heart ache everywhere. I just can’t, you know, just don’t feel the sadness and whatever after watching. But I super liked it. I tend to like all dramas and movies whit those sad endings. :p

I had the time to download this movie when I was on my Oh-I’m-addicted-to-KMovies-and-JMovies moment this year. But I wasn’t able to watch it right after. I waited for my roommates to come watch it with me but I ended up watching it alone during my lunch breaks. One part of the movie per lunch break. XD

Part 1. Tokyo. An aspiring Taiwanese (I think, can’t remember already.) cartoonist in Japan meets this Japanese painter and likes her. This story is just plain sweet. XD It tackles the first part of a relationship, liking and meeting each other. :D

Part 2. Taipei. Uhm, this was the funniest. Since the guy is Japanese and the girl is Chinese, they can’t understand each other. The girl is suffering from a break-up and well you know, here comes Japanese guy.

Part 3. Shanghai. Can you just research it on your own? Cause it hurts everytime I remember the story. But, fiiine. A Japanese guy comes to Shanghai to study. The daughter of his landlay falls in love with him. Aaaaw, I can’t stand it anymore. I’ll have tears flowing from my eyes soon.

XP When I watched it this year, I didn’t watched Part 3 again because I’m afraid my heart will be in a rollercoaster after that. So, over-all impression: The movie was good. Well, I think this movie is made to give good directors a chance to showcase their talents. And I somehow smell some indie-movie vibe here and I personally believe that the quality indie movies give and the feel they radiate are simply better than commercial movies.

Although the three mini-movies were different movies, they somehow connect to each other and the stories flow easily to the next even though they weren’t necessarily connected. And I was surprised to see Tsukamoto Takashi in the first part since I thought he just starred in the third part.

So uhm, that’s all. :D Sorry for the bias and the uhm, sidestories. I can’t seem to make a good review free of sidestories and rants and whatnots.
